Former Cougar Now Lion: Willie Rooks

Willie Rooks, Junior Guard at Texas A&M University-Commerce, is a former Coastal Bend College Student Athlete for the Men's Basketball program. Rooks was named Second Team All-Region XIV and also led the conference in scoring, while finishing sixth in the nation last year with 23.0 points per game. He also had a season average of 5.0 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game for the Cougars. The Houston native played a key part to the success of the Coastal Bend College Program during his tenure. Rooks also led the conference in field goals made and finished ninth in the nation. The current Lion was also third in the nation in three-point shooting percentage, averaging 43.1 percent from beyond the arc. Rooks was a scoring machine for Coastal Bend during the 2016-2017 campaign, scoring more than 20 points, 16 times and 30 or more points five times. He scored a career-high 40 points against Jacksonville College, which included 10 made three pointers.

Willie Rooks is currently averaging 16.5 points per game while shooting .450 from the field and .385 from beyond the three point line. He is also averaging 17.5 points per game during conference play and is the only Lion to start all 20 games this season. Rooks best scoring output was recently on 1/20/2018, against West Texas A&M when he scored 35 points for a season high on the team to go with his season high seven rebounds and three assists. Rooks best game for Texas A&M Commerce was broadcasted live on ESPN3. Coastal Bend College Men's Basketball Program and Athletic Department is very proud of Rooks, and cannot wait to see what the future holds for this young man. Rooks is currently majoring in General Studies.
