The Coastal Bend Cougars made their way down to Austin, Tx for a doubleheader against Saint Edward's University JV team following their 2 game sweep from #4 Brookhaven on Monday night. The Cougars were ready to face the Hilltoppers, as they rode into the State Capital with a 6 game win streak.
For the early game of the doubleheader, Head Coach Brian Bauerle and staff gave Michael Dinsdale the ball to start from the bump. Dinsdale pitched a gem for Coastal Bend, completing eight innings, only allowing four hits, one hit and one run scoring while striking out six batters. During the low scoring game, Coastal Bend managed 10 hits but only scoring one run before going into extra innings. Colton Getschmann entered the game in the ninth inning to relieve Dinsdale. Getschmann pitched three and two thirds of an inning, only giving up two hits, four walks, and one run to go with his one strikeout. While in extra innings, the Cougars scored once in the eleventh inning and but the Hilltoppers would match. Not to be denied, the Cougars would then score another run in the top of the twelfth inning to lead 3-2. Mason Foster came in the twelfth inning to relieve Getschmann for one out. Foster would dice up the Hilltopper, striking him out for the last out of the ballgame.
Coastal Bend won the first game by a final score of 3-2 over Saint Edwards. Bo Gonzales smacked two doubles, while Jordan Gochenour, and Kyler Bumstead each hit a double on the game. Joel Rodriguez, Josh Burnett and each recorded an rbi during the victory. Ruben Sepulveda knocked in the game winning rbi for the Cougars.
The last game of the doubleheader versus Saint Edward's, Tyler Dick would get the nod to start the attack from the mound for the Cougars. Dick would pitch a solid game for Coastal Bend. After going six and a third of an inning while striking out five batters and allowing four hits, three walks and three earned runs during his outing, the Cougars would trail 0-2 for only one inning. Jared Irvine would score two Cougars for rbi's as he hit a double. Luis Castellanos also hit a double at his lone at bat. Jordan Gochenour went three for three with a walk and a double to his stat line. Jacob Williamson only pitched a third of an inning, allowing one hit and one strikeout during his performance.
Coastal Bend ended up losing by a final score of four to three in the bottom of the seventh to Saint Edwards. The Cougars currently hold a record of 31-14 on the season. Next Friday, April 20th the Cougars will be traveling to Tyler, Tx to begin the first half of a seven game series against the Tyler Junior College Apaches for the Region XIV Division III conference play.
