Levelland, Tx- On Friday evening, November the 16th, The Coastal Bend Cougars squared off against New Mexico Military Institute. The Cougars would find themselves in a battle with the Broncos in the early stages of the contest. CBC would lead NMMI at the break, 36-27.
As the second half of play began, the Broncos would not let in and give the Cougars a run for their money. The momentum would swing back and forth for both ball clubs, but eventually Coastal Bend found a way to pull away and hold off NMMI. The Cougars won the game by a final score of 78-66.
CBC Center, Elijah Moleon lead the Cougars in scoring with 17 and in rebounds as well, with six. CBC Guard, Gerald Thomas netted 16 points and snagged down five boards for the contest. Charles Callier knocked in 15 points for Coastal Bend and recorded five rebounds on the night.
The insuing day, Saturday, November 17th the Cougars would face against, #2 Nationally Ranked, South Plains College for an early afternoon affair. Coastal Bend started the game off well versus the Texans. The contest was a battle through the duration of the first half, a common occurence for the Cougars. CBC found themselves trailing by four points at halftime, 42-46.
During the second half of the contest, The Cougars struggled from field shooting 37.9 percent from the field and going 1-for-6 from long rnage. Coastal Bend turned the ball over 13 times, that lead to 13 points in favor of the Texans. The battle on the glass also went in favor of South Plains as the corralled 10 more rebounds than Cougars 29. CBC played hard and fought to the bitter end but ultimately lost the game by a final score of 74-101.
Coastal Bend Point Guard, Brian Payton lead the lead with 16 points, while grabbing three rebounds and dishing out three assists. Peyton Hardin added 13 points to go with his four rebounds and three assists. Charles Callier chipped in 11 points while snatching up five rebounds. CBC big man, Kenny Brown contributed to the team with 10 points.
Coastal Bend's next game is on Wednesday, November 21st at Victoria College. Tip-Off is at 6:00 PM.
