Cougars Pull Away From Leopards

Beeville, Tx-  On Wednesday night, November 10th, the Coastal Bend College men's basketball program hosted Temple College for regular season matchup. CBC had their sights set on a much needed victory after falling in some games recently.

Right from the games first whistle, the Cougars jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the opening minutes against the Leopards. The opposing Leopards were finally able to put some puts on the scoreboard, which then lead to a 13-2 run of their own. CBC didn't back down and continued to battle to get back in the game.

No team held a lead more than six points in the first half as both team continued to trade buckets in the highly contested affair. The Cougars were able to take a 41-39 lead into the break following a last second lay-in from Point Guard, Robert Gil.

In the second half of the game, Coastal Bend picked up right where they left off with their ongoing scoring. The Cougars held a 56-48 lead with just over 15 minutes remaining. 

Temple remained diligent and fought their way back to a two point deficit trailing Coastal Bend, 71-69 with five and a half minutes in regulation. CBC settled in defensively and scored transition baskets  to go up 79-69 with two and a half minutes. Ka'von Moore started the run by hitting a deep three and converting his free throw on his made foul attempt. 

The Leopards would go away, as they scratched their way into a one point game, 85-84 with just under 25 seconds left on the clock. Coastal Bend split a pair of free throws to put themselves back up by two. 

Temple failed to tie the ball game up with a missed attempt as Coastal Bend regained possession. After splitting their free throws, Coastal Bend found themselves up, 87-84 with 20 seconds left in the game.

The Leopards missed a potential game tying three pointer from the left corner, and the Cougars were able to snag down the rebound.  After being fouled, CBC made one of two free throws to put away the Temple and win the game by a final score of 88-84. 

Freshman Center Ugochuckwu Ejiiofor, made a huge impact on the game, leading the team in points with 18 and corralling 15 rebounds to go with his two blocked shots. Robert Gil contributed 15 points on the contest and dished out six assists. Guard, Antonio Halliburton tallied 13 points while providing five rebounds and four assists to his stat line. Forward, Ka'von Moore also netted 14 points for the Cougars. Off the bench, Faybeyon Shelton and Robert Chapman with 10 and nine points in the win, respectively. Sophomore Guard, Kendrick Christian added seven points to help boost the Cougar offense. 

Coastal Bend heads to Weatherford, Tx for their next game on Saturday, November 13th. The Cougars will face the Coyotes of Weatherford College at 2:00 PM.
