Brenham, TX- The Coastal Bend College men's basketball team played at Blinn College on Wednesday, February 9th for a conference matchup. The Cougars are looking to win their third straight game and beat the Buccaneers for the second time this season.
After starting the game off on a rough offensive start. The Cougars defensive intensity kept them in the game, only being down 14-11 early in the first half. Robert Gil and Lonzo Rand had the Cougars first 13 points of the contest. Blinn would then go on an 18-4 run to led the Cougars 32-15 with 5:33 remaining in the first half. Finishing the half with two made free- throws by Kentraevious Johnson, the Cougars look to make a run in the second half being down 43-27.
Starting the second half of play, the coaching staff made some adjustments. The Cougars were looking to play at a faster pace while being more unselfish. Coastal Bend scored a first quick bucket by the backdoor cut of Robert Chapman. Then the high flyer Lonzo Rand dunked an alley-oop pass from Robert Gil to try and give the Cougars the momentum they have been looking for. CBC would go on a 19-12 run to pull the game within single digits, 55-46 with 11:30 left in regulation. Blinn would go on to take command of the game with a 17-5 run late in the second half. Ultimately beating Coastal Bend by a final score of 82-66.
CBC's Lonzo Rand put up 12 points, shooting 5-8 from the field. Guard, Robert Gil had eight points along with two rebounds and two steals, while Robert Chapman put up 12 points with seven rebounds. Guard, Jaylen Williams put up eight points with two rebounds for the contest.
Coastal Bend College has a week off before their next game at Victoria College on Wednesday, February 16th. The Cougars are standing tenth in the regional standings, but are looking to make a season ending surge going into the regional tournament. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM in Victoria, TX.
