The 2021-2022 Coastal Bend College men's basketball season has concluded, and this years team tied a school record of seven conference wins. Sophomore Point Guard, Robert Gil and Sophomore Guard/Forward, Robert Chapman highly contributed to the teams' success this season and have been named All Region XIV Honorable Mention. The Cougars reached the conference tournament, but lost to Paris Junior College in the first round of play. These student-athletes joined the 2012-2013 and 2017-2018 teams for the most conference wins in a season. 

Robert Gil led the team with 13.4 points per game, while shooting 37 percent from three and 47 percent from the field. The San Antonio native also dished out 3.6 assists per game while averaging 3.7 rebounds per contest. 

Head Coach, Michael Brown on Robert Gil, "Robert Gil is one of the toughest players in the region. As a player who stands only 5'10" he plays as if he is 6'5". The amount of heart and confidence he plays with; justifies the way he played all year. Gil was one of the hardest workers and toughest kids on the team. Every day he came into practice ready to get better and ready to make his teammates better. He is the main reason this team had accomplished all they had throughout this great season." 

Robert Chapman averaged 11.1 points per game while leading the team in efficiency shooting 54 percent from the field, and 83 percent from the free-throw line. The Eisenhower product also corralled 5.4 rebounds per game. Chapman finished 7th in the NJCAA Division I ranks with his hot shooting percentage from beyond the arc with 48 percent. The sharpshooter also ranked as the top three-point shooter in Region XIV.

Coach Brown on Robert Chapman, "Robert Chapman is one of the most efficient players I have ever seen. Every game Chapman showed up and played as hard as he could. If the team needed a big shot or a key rebound, you better know that Robert Chapman was there for the win. Rob dedicated himself every day to wake up and get in the gym."
