Beeville, TX – The Coastal Bend College Cougars Women's Basketball team closed out the 2024-2025 season with several milestones both on and off the court.
With seven sophomore graduating this May and multiple players moving on to continue their athletic and academic careers, the Cougars posted the highest team GPA in program history. The team maintained a 3.0+ GPA for two consecutive semesters, with graduating sophomores averaging above a 3.25, a first for the program.
One standout accomplishment: Brelee Nichols became the second Cougar in program history to commit to a NCAA Division II university. Nichols announced her commitment to Western New Mexico University in Silver City, NM this spring. Another standout accomplishment includes Carrah Davis, a Beeville native, being recognized for her strong performance this season with Honorable Mention All-Conference honors in Region14.
In addition to success in the classroom and on the court, the team made a strong impact in the community. The Cougars volunteered at events like Beeville's "Women's Night Out", assisted during STAAR Testing at local schools with high-fives and shooting hoops, and volunteered with Serenity Counseling Services for "Chalking for Mental Health."
From a performance standpoint, the Cougars continued to make their mark nationally – finishing top 15 in the nation in three-pointers made for the second consecutive year.
Coach Purswell reflected on the season:
"Every season is a chance for growth for our young student-athletes. Watching them move on, graduate, or return is amazing to me. We faced a lot of adversity as individuals and as a team, and their character really shined through."
The Cougars finish their season with gratitude for the lessons learned and growth achieved.
